Good friend of my wife is a major name in ceramic art and, especially, Japanese style porcelains. His firing is all wood; it’s a hallmark of his art now but he started that way because he could cut wood even when he couldn’t afford gas.

It’s gotta be a sort of an art in itself to get wood to burn hot enough to fire ceramics, no?
