Any good mystery novels set during the time of the Roman Empire?

I highly recommend C.J. Samson’s series set during the time of Henry VIII.

Lindsay Davis writes a series set in Rome around 80 AD, (?) starring ‘private informer’ Marcus Didius Falco. Falco was described by an early reviewer as ‘Sam Spade in a ratty toga’. They’re well-plotted, very funny, and as far as I can tell, well-researched.
