I suspect, but do not know, that this is part of a deal with the Russians about Iran.

We have destroyed any credibility with our new allies from the former Warsaw Pact. Why should any Eastern European country trust us again? We just tossed them to the dogs - or to the bear…the big fat nasty Russian bear.

Russian uses Iran to extract favors from us and gain advantage. China uses North Korea in the same manner. And, we play right along…
