Less terrifying than that, but only because the universe described is more distant.
He’s one of my favorite all-time writers, and I think his books deserve to get studied at a much higher level than they are. He’s addressing the central questions of human existence and making it look cool at the same time.
I read one before my Sci-Fi bent wained and I turned to reading about Rome.
It was about a girl with genetically engineered tatoos. It was cool, but didn’t make me want to read the rest of the series.
