First- the so-cons and libertarians in the GOP want vastly different things.

Partially correct, but neither group is getting their agendas addressed in any meaningful way. In general both groups are in favor of a strong military, fiscal responsibility, smaller government, secure borders, a reduction in illegal immigration, energy independence, among other items.
Regarding a third party: I really don’t care what third party emerges as a force in politics. But if they can work toward a better America I will support them.
