The bombing never shocks me so much as the number of attempts on the man’s life that failed either due to little things. Like the 20 July plot, which failed because he was shielded primarily by the thick table leg between him and the bomb meant to turn him into meat paste.

Didn’t it rattle his brain though? Circumstantially I suppose. After those attempts he really went downhill. So maybe it served a really good purpose even though it failed to kill him.
