Someone at the WH must have done their homework and knew that Nico Pitney’s coverage has been superior to that of everyone else in the media on the Iranian situation. I think it was the right call to push that to the forefront from Obama’s political standpoint, since it shows that he’s engaged and up to date on the situation - media saavy.

His actual actions and statements to date have been a muddled mess - and he gets serious demerits for calling the situation in Iran a debate. Last time I checked, people aren’t murdered in debate.
