The essay (again annoying to talk about something you can’t link) makes a very convincing point that it is specifically in our national character to question people we see as revered or in authority.

Without seeing the essay you speak of, I still have to disagree with the premise, or at least in the manner you presented it earlier with the “MUST SHOOT DOWN” those getting hype and praise.

Look at the various British tabloids. Trying to take someone down a peg or two is not unique to the American populace. It’s a (shitty) part of the human condition.
