Injecting the idea that armed forces members have a “worthiness factor” for rescue is a terrible precedent. I hope there are enough cool heads left in the party to hold the jackals back because they’re playing with fire on this.
Like I told some wingnut acquaintances, whether he’s a deserter or a hero, getting him back was a necessary job. If he’s the former, then it’s to court-martial his ass for violating the UCMJ. If it’s the latter, then it’s to bring him home. Either way, leaving him to rot was not an option.
