Other than the attacks themselves, I remember the week after. I live north of Chicago. It’s populated here. Always traffic. But for that whole week afterwards, it was a ghost town. Hardly saw anyone driving around. Even Walmart/Target/grocery stores were ghost towns. I’ll never forget how eerie that was.
I lived southeast of Chicago at that time, right under the O’Hare flight path. The skies were brilliant blue and completely free of contrails. The silence and empty space were a little daunting.
