My Mother’s Mom was a lot like these ladies. She made most of her own clothing. She worked most of her adult life in a shoe factory, sewing leather and suede into work and casual footwear. She loved sewing and used lots of colors. I don’t ever remember seeing her in dull colors unless they were highlighted and accessorized with lots of bright colors. Much to her chagrin, her oldest granddaughter (me) loved to sew, but not wear makeup or tailored clothes and expensive footwear. Fashion was her art, she also had really stunning silver hair, she refused to color it. She would even put little bits of colored ribbon into her “do” sometimes, just for fun. She also had a full length mink coat with a little matching hat, I have no idea what happened to it after she passed.
