Hurricane watch extended in Florida to the Georgia state line by the National Hurricane Center.

Jacksonville is now in the hurricane watch area.

Hurricane Matthew lost a bit of strength interacting with the mountains of Cuba and Haiti, but is expected to strengthen overnight. Winds currently 125 mph (Category III).

Hurricanes are “heat engines” and will pick up heat crossing the Florida Strait’s Gulf Stream, which will increase wind speed.
