This is some West Wing/House of Cards crazy, but… I wonder if Pence could get Sessions on board by promising to nominate him for a judgeship (knowing that the GOP majority in the Senate would probably back him). And how many would not sign on for fear of Pence sacking them once he became Acting President.

Also, here’s another interesting angle, what happens if Pence is serving as Acting President and there’s a tie vote in the Senate, can he still cast the tie breaking vote?

A quick google (so likely incorrect) tells me that a tie would fail if there is no VP present or there is no VP.
