My mother was like that when I was a kid. I chalked it up to the fact that she graduated from high school in the 1950’s. It’s a very provincial attitude, IMO. And it’s one I didn’t subscribe to.

I asked a guy in my class to go to prom with me as friends. We had dinner together, went to prom, then at the end of the night we went our separate ways. It was fun. I don’t see the shame in a girl asking someone out. WTF.

I’m thinking of When Harry Met Sally. Can boys and girls (men/women) be friends with no chance of romance/sex, assuming each is hetero? I don’t think so. I know people will say I’m wrong, but there’s usually always one that is attracted to the other. There will always be sexual tension, if not outright sex.
