re: #454 Dark_Falcon

I don’t think carry a gun solves all problems, but I do think one has a better chance of surviving an active shooter if one is armed after the shooter first attacks (those attacked first seldom have time to react, and those rare exceptions being because they are trained to spot such threats and alert). After that first attack, the odds of survival go up if you can shoot back.

I understand what your’e saying, but to be honest, it falls under the “Good guy with a gun” fallacy. Most people do not take the rigorous training that is required to make that kind of life and death decision in a situation like that. None.

I also question your statistics there. I’d be curious to see if there’s any non-NRA type research to back that up.

Shit, I’d be willing to bet many cops don’t keep up their firearm training like they should. Far, far too many people in the US strap on a weapon thinking it’s a magic talisman that instantly transforms them into the Punisher; dispatching only the bad guys who truly deserve to die.

And let’s face it: we are the only industrialized Western country that worships weapons like this. It’s a unique disease to this nation that is simultansously embarrassing and frightening.

I get that there will be exceptions to this concept, like every other situation. However, we live in the frigging 21st Century. Americans’ childish fascination with playing cowboy in an era where we carry Star Trek communicators in our pockets is beyond delusional.
