To be quite honest, I agree with your thesis but I emphatically reject your examples. I personally delivered signatures for Howard Dean to the Secretary of State’s office in [state redacted] in ‘04. It was a big deal, we were passionate people, and we were all bummed as shit when the Scream Freakout occurred. But none of those volunteers were whiny fourth-way children, none of them were brogressively butthurt about the eventual nominee being insufficiently liberal. To a man and woman, we all worked just as hard to elect John Kerry as we would have for any other plausible candidate.

Yeah, Howard Dean was a mainstream Democratic candidate who had opposed the war in Iraq and had a lot of charisma. I was rooting for him, but I didn’t hold a grudge against the other candidates or pretend that he Wuz Robbed! And neither did he.
