I didn’t know about that. Damn.

There was a documentary of the fight the residents put up from PBS’ southern California affiliate KCET which showed the extent of the forced displacement of the original residents. They were given offers way below market-rate for their property. Given the lack of awareness of their property value, they took it without hesitation. But when they tried to purchase property elsewhere in Los Angeles, they couldn’t afford it because it was less than what the normal market rate was at the time.

Those who stayed in defiance were forcibly removed and had their homes bulldozed to make way for the stadium.

That is why I can not in any conscience see a game over there. My friends say I’m being unreasonable because it happened long ago, but the residents that were affected are still alive and have not been granted justice for it to this day.
