I’d agree with you. I also think Obama is smart enough not to imagine that this speech would be a single worldchanging event, but rather that he meant it to be the first of many steps he’d be taking to foster the atmosphere you’re talking about—the kind of hearts and minds approach. Step one in a very, very long term game.

It’s a further question whether that’s going to work; I don’t have very high hopes.
