I’m reading Innocent When You Dream, a collection of interviews with Tom Waits, and the ones for the early years— man, that guy paid his dues. Tour after tour with audiences saying, “Who the hell is this guy and what is this bizarre crap he’s playing?”

And now, of course, he’s a legend.
