In my more paranoid moments I have been wondering if the Russians and other bad-faith actors are supporting Q-craziness, Alex Jones, Evangelical plague-rats etc. to provoke us to modify or restrict the First Amendment for the benefit of future authoritarians. It’s far-fetched to be sure, but they do like the long game and it would certainly be in their interest.
