Rumsfled’s strategy proved to have problems. But Shinseki’s opinion that 300,000 US troops were needed would also have had problems if it had been implemented.

Not the least of which would have been the question of where we would have gotten the 300,000 troops.

We’re having enough trouble keeping half that number in theater at a time.
