Yeah I’ve got a number of ACW books, including McPherson’s although haven’t read it. As much as I like having the actual physical form of a book, e-readers and audio CD’s have been my best means of actually digesting the written word. You’re right as to the time period Foote was writing in and how the ACW was academically as well as popularly portrayed for many years. One of the few instances I think where the winners didn’t actually write the history(ies), or at least not most of them, for many years.
