The racist “meme” is to do with the fundamental assumption by the liberal left that white society is racist. By definition, then, no-one “of color” (and leftist Latinos put themselves in this category) can ever be racist, nor white people the victims of racism. The conservatives understand this, but balk at it from time to time, in futile attempts to reclaim a color-blind jurisprudence. Bleating “racist” is pointless. Juan Williams admitted that the Sotomajor statement concerning wise Latinas making better decisions than white males would be racist - if it were inverted! We will never reach a time (as Sandra Day O’Connor hoped) when affirmative action is unnecessary. It is a government-backed American Dream program.
