Sure. I agree. I think these early episodes were a proof of concept more than anything else. They have to cram all this stuff in to get the network on board. My hope is that as the show goes on they don’t have to rely on Batman’s villains anymore since they’re supposed to be focused on the city of Gotham, not Batman. Bruce Wayne is a kid. He’s not going to be facing the Joker anytime soon.

They’re setting up some interesting ideas with Penguin, and he has the potential to become a very, very dark character. Everyone underestimates him, but it’s there. I want to see where they take him. I just hope they do it organically instead of trying to have him team up with some other known villain or whatever. It’s waaay too soon for that.

Problem is that what makes Batman such an interesting character is the villains he fights. It’s why they had to introduce the Joker and then eventually the rest of his rogues gallery, as they needed somebody who was dangerous enough that a vigilante was needed to protect the people of the city.

Otherwise, it would just be a guy in a mask fighting two-bit crooks in a crooked city where the mob ruled.
