Isn’t the French Quarter above sea level? I have been told by a Cajun I know that the French avoided the lowest ground for building. I never checked, but it seems sensible to not rebuild housing below sea level in hurricane country. Let me guess, that was the cheap land and the developers had their way… Pure speculation on my part, but am I wrong?

I believe the Quarter is 9ft below sea level….looking across from Jackson Park you can see it drop…correct me if I’m wrong
