What about the phone banking?

During the campaign, Zombie posted to the blog about going to a phone-banking for Obama event, to check out the opposition. Why the hell anyone would waste their time going to a phone-banking even for a politician they didn’t like was beyond me for a moment, but it eventually sort of made sense.

Well, no it didn’t.

It was one of these newfangled things where you meet people at the park on your lunch break and phonebank on your cellphone. Zombie showed up and cellphoned, and seemed, I have to say, way more amazed by the process than anyone who thinks they know crap about politics should be.

But the last passage pricked my ears up:

But most disturbingly of all: The Obama campaign knows the name, phone number and address (as the assistant told me) of each person called; and we volunteers do in fact mark down the voting preferences of each individual. So, through phone banks like these, should Obama in fact become president (and even if he doesn’t), he and his team will have a pretty extensive list of everyone who voted against him.

Hmmmm.

Food for thought.

Thank God, a number of Zombie readers were Republicans from Planet Earth, and explained in the comments that this is how you phonebank, and that they were doing the same thing for McCain, had done for Bush and Dole, etc.
