I feel like it needs a little more knowledge of Japanese culture to really get that one, but yeah, it’s awesome. Though the hakuza who serves as the frame story in Tampopo is goddamn brilliant.

I find his films translates better to Western audiences in general than most Japanese comedies do. That said most of the people I’ve shown Minbo to were already big Kitano fans, etc., so no explanations were necessary.
