re: #44 Blind Frog Belly White

A friend of my wife’s is a Libertarian, who, like most libertarians, gets stumped by the roads question. I suggested to my wife that she work on her the following way:

Roads should be built by the people who benefit.

Having each individual who benefits build only a section of the road would lead to chaos - it would change surface, quality, etc. every 50 feet.

Therefore, the way to do it is for the people who benefit to form some sort of organization to get this done, to do it efficiently, and for the mutual benefit of all those affected.

Luckily, we already have done that. We call it “government.”

I think Family Guy actually illustrated the fallacy of libertarian thinking. They got rid of the government pretty much and eventually there was a need that came up that illustrated the need for government. It’s the one where Peter gets involved with the Tea Party. I forget the episode name or if it’s on Netlfix.
