Two things that also came up in the discussion.

First, Trump is bringing a lot of people to the GOP Primaries, which is scary. But it’s not at all clear how these people will vote on downticket races, AND it’s entirely possible that these aren’t people the GOP really wants. A lot of these folks are real ‘Clean out the barn!” types who might vote against incumbent GOP pols.

Second, although the GOP generally follows along with whoever’s nominated, I don’t think I’ve EVER seen such a level of outright hatred for a frontrunner. Sure, McCain had plenty of detractors and so did Romney, but nothing like THIS! Is it possible that Trump will lose as many votes as he brings in new ones?

I heard earlier that Trump is not doing well with identified Republican voters. He is doing very well with the independents. That would also show he is bringing ‘new’ voters but no guarantee they would be actual Republicans after the elections. I think that also means they are not interested in down ticket GOP candidates.
