The thing is, you listen to Beck and realize that he can only truly believe that if he hadn’t paid attention to what Republicans have been doing since the 90s.

And that is entirely possible. The GOP and the right carefully crafted this scheme in which they poked passions with conspiracy and angry, shouty pundit-men, yet at the same time told themselves that they wouldn’t be changed by that choice. They lied and deceived, but at the same time told themselves that the people they were lying to and deceiving would eventually see things in their insider, moderated fiscal-first conservative terms.

At this very moment, there’s a conservative “thinker” pushing a column for tomorrow’s NYT through his lower intestine, and it’s contents will be (1) we don’t know where this came from, it isn’t True Conservatism that will save us all, (2) this isn’t our fault.
