Actually I don’t remember which Carolina it was.

Apparently it wasn’t just in the Carolinas (or a Carolina). I just finished a history of “Freedom Summer” by Bruce Watson, and the same rhetoric about communist agitators upsetting “our blacks” was chucked around a lot in Mississippi.

Honestly it sounds very JBS, to the point that I’d wonder if that was the origin point.
