You remind me my dear old dad, during the Great Depression, and his brother had paper routes so they could help their parents with extra “change.”

There was a POW camp near their North Charleston home, and the US G.I.’s guarding Italian “enemy combatants” would tip well for a paper, or give Dad & his brother a “gift” of rationed bacon which was not available or affordable otherwise.

My dad remembers always being hungry, and being nicknamed “Chow Hound”. He is 78.5 years old and still skinny as he was his whole military career.

What a difficult life that was for your dad!

But yes - boys particularly need and will eat a ton of food.
My husband tells me when he used to get home from school, his after-school “snack” was 4 sandwiches. Then he would come in at dinner-time and have dinner, too.
