Years ago we visited a state park in Illinois that had an 1840s young Lincoln theme — log cabin, re-enactors, animals. There was one gander who liked to chase people — run at them, honking and flapping, and make most people back off, if not run away. I once raised geese, and wasn’t intimidated. I picked him up, tucked him under my arm, and carried him around for a bit. Quietest goose you ever saw.
