This is the way GG is framing the Oliver interview of Snowden—Americans are all a bunch of dumb asses who care nothing for politics or “what’s happening” to them by their govt. Never mind the shocking revelation Oliver managed to glean from Snowden, that he really has no idea of what detail is in the documents, just that we’re supposed to believe him that he “vetted” enough to make the claims that he, GG and Poitras (among others) have made, and which created new careers for them.

So says the guy who claims Brazil for his home.

A 2010 findlaw.com poll found that almost 2/3 of Americans - 65% - were incapable of naming even a single member of the U.S. Supreme Court. A 2010 Pew poll discovered that 41% of Americans are unable to name the current Vice President of the U.S; in other words, Oliver could just as easily (if not more easily) compile a video of Times Square visitors looking stumped when asked if they knew who Joe Biden, or Antonin Scalia, is.

Of course Greenwald thinks this is about political disengagement…and not the fact that many people simply don’t give a fuck about much of anything. How many people couldn’t place Iraq on a map? How many couldn’t point to Ohio?

I wonder how many Americans know more about Kim Kardashian and Tom Brady than Joe Biden. I am betting a far greater number.
