National Review was quite right in pointing out that some of this problem is simply a size issue: Charlotte is the smallest city to host major party national convention since New Orleans held the DNC back in 1988. But New Orleans as a town catering to tourists has a great deal of hotel space, while Charlotte does not. There’s a reason it’s always bigger cities that host big conventions: Those are the places with enough hotel space for the attendees.
They had plenty of time to clean up those hotels before the delegates arrived in town. All the bad press is only going to hurt them and Charlotte.
