Errr… it can be qualified. “Vaginal intercourse” works fine, for instance. And “sexual intercourse” of course already is a qualifier. And the other forms do not “need” a qualifier. If you assume that the people you are adressing only think of sexual intercourse as sex, then maybe. But then again, that is not the primary meaning of “sex”. That really is just a narrowed down meaning created by people who want to try to get away with some forms of sex without calling it such.

But how much of this “qualifying” is because of Lewinskygate? Back in the 90’s sex was sex—lose your virginity, get pregnant, sex.
