Oh sure, I’m not saying QB’s sucked back then. The real point is that coaching philosophy has changed. And now QB’s are asked to do more. Namath, Fouts and a lot of others could do the same stuff that Brees and others do now.

when Walsh put up the west coast offense, he had three things…a smart mobile QB, who could drift around and make three reads, wideouts that would fight for the ball, as in tall, strong and fast, and fearless tight ends and slot guys…I mean fearless…and even then it took him a few years to get it right…corners were too small, inside LBs too slow, nickel and dime backs with their heads up their asses…at that point in time a QB like Steve Young could just kill you…took awhile for the league to catch up and counter with 2 deep covers and zone blitzes etc to slow it down
