Only thing I question—Steinbrenner was already an owner (1973) when he was convicted (1974.) I would think the league has more to say about felons BEFORE they approve them than after they already are owners.

Doing some more study and so far it looks like the main way to qualify as a MLB owner is to be approved by the other 30 owners and the recommendation of the league commissioner.

So, if you are already a member of the rich and powerful club and not in jail and have good lawyers I am thinking you can be in as an owner.

And I just read if you like to rock the boat too much, like Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA Dallas Mavs, you can be looked at as not good material for ownership.

Private Club rules I’d say.
