I was very turned off by all the Campus Crusade for Christ dweebs running around the dorms in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Put me off Christianity for a long time. I have come to terms with it after meeting a number of entirely reasonable Christians although I am hardly a believer or a practicioner.

Fundamentalists who insist that anyone who believes even slightly differently than them is an idiot are quite capable of putting people off from any belief system, be it a religion, atheism, or hell, even CrossFit (for a non-religious but still kind of cultish example).

Ok, the latter one might be because it’s also associated with an ex, but..
