Privilege is largely invisible to the privileged, and I speak as one of the privileged.
It’s exactly the same motivated reasoning that underpins white supremacy - only if the playing field is truly level are my accomplishments all my own doing. If you see yourself pulling ahead of others who aren’t white and male, it must be because you’re better at your job than they are.
