When I was a college freshman, the woman up the hall had a sort of African-heritage theme going in her room, with textiles and drums and Egyptian bronzes.

Another woman had a cat, who had free run of the hall.

When the cat found the African theme room, she naturally assumed it was a temple. For her. She would be found planted in the middle of the kente-print bedspread, in the same pose as the statue of Bast on the shelf above her.

There are plenty of dogs that look nothing like their wolf ancestors.

But almost all cats seem to have the appearance and behavior of their larger wild cousins. It’s one of the things I find so fascinating about cats.
