I whack old posters the same as new posters. It’s got nothing to do with his newness, but with his habit of using incredibly derogatory language at the drop of a hat.

I’m talking about the way some new posters, because they’re not yet known, tend to catch a lot of shit. A disproportionate amount of shit. They can say something that a more ‘known’ poster would and does say but get attacked.

I haven’t seen all of sigma’s posts, but I have noticed him catching a disproportionate amount of shit.

I am also, and primarily, talking about the ways in which new posters react to that. Maybe they’ll say ‘fuck you’ — to the tenth, or twentieth, time that day someone has called them a liar, or unamerican, or whatever. Or maybe the fifth time.

Then everyone talks about how terribly, terribly rude they were, and wasn’t it awful that they said ‘fuck off” to (whoever)?

I am suggesting that you extend the virtue you just advised— being gracious— to him, perhaps a bit more than you have.

It would be a good idea for people to bear that in mind anyway— graciousness. Especially when dealing with new people. We get to post here for free— it might be nice to remember that it’s in Charles’s interests to have more viewers and commenters rather than fewer.
