re: #489 GunstarGreen

I live by the sentiment of treating people how I want to be treated, and treating everyone equally. Largely that graphic contains ideas I can agree with, but it expresses what seems to be a core tenet of the whole ‘privilege’ concept of the social justice movement that I simply cannot abide:

A. Because I am ‘privileged’ I will ‘shut up’.
B. When I try to speak, and people just scream ‘privilege’ at me, I’ll just take it and reflect that maybe they might have a point somewhere.

That’s not social justice. That’s thinly-disguised retaliation.

If that attitude was being enforced with any consequences, you might be right. As it is, a suggestion to listen to someone with a different perspective could be a good thing, especially if you’re operating on the assumption that other people want to be treated the same way you want to be treated.

If someone screams anything at you, the conversation is over. Doesn’t matter who holds the ‘privilege’ there.
