I live pretty near where he had a home. Great man. And that’s a great point about warmongrels. Knowing how to make peace is arguably more important for a general than knowing how to make war. The Marshall Plan was an act of genius by him and Truman.

I read a biography of Truman years ago. He said it was his experience as a Southerner that influenced the Marshall Plan.

He knew what a clusterfuck the Reconstruction was, and how that had poisoned American society. He wanted to avoid that after WWII. His idea was to make sure the Axis nations didn’t feel like ‘conquered people’.

It worked too.
