What in the last 10 years or so has given you any reason to think that the GOP has any long-term thinking skills at all?

Other than being smart enough to focus on state legislature elections in 2010 so they could gerrymander the House (and state legislatures) in 2012, they haven’t done much. They have, for most of the 21st century, been playing defense - they’ve been mostly reacting, fighting the last war if you will.
