Speaking also as a Trek fan, from way back in the ’60s till now, I’m willing to forgive the reboots and character shifts if the new movies can do what the Original Series did.

Inspire people to imagine a future Earth without disease, without famine, without war, when people can work together globally for a common goal.

Granted, the reboots are more into bombastic save-the-universe plots, but there’s still an optimistic tone that, no matter what, we will survive.
