On the one hand, I agree with you, because I always thought minimizing pollution and waste should be a conservative value. On the other hand, I don’t appreciate the lecture.

I’m the child of frugal and not-rich parents, so (among other things) I check my tire pressure regularly, and always have. I didn’t need Obama the Wise to suggest it to me as if it were some brilliant new scheme. What would help me is not a tire gauge of my own - have one; thanks - but if gas stations would actually keep their stupid air pumps in usable condition.

As for improving the energy efficiency of my home, I rent. Any serious outlay I make on the property, I won’t recoup in savings. So I don’t do it. Ditto the landlord. Maybe every dollar I spent would save SOMEBODY more than a dollar in the future, but for ME, it’s just a dollar spent. If I had the money to toss around altruistically like that, I’d be a homeowner instead of a renter.
