Christmas 1977: Chicago received 4” of frozen rain, topped by 4” of snow and a further 4” of frozen rain. A sh*t sandwich that shut the city down, followed by a blast of temps down to -27F (-67F with wind chill).

Spring of 1978 I moved to Arizona.

And in the spring of 1979 it rained on the snowpack, flooding Phoenix and cutting all but one bridge connection across the Salt River.

The city even reinstated rail service to get commuters acoss the river, but dropped it after the bridges were reparied…
