Typhoid Mary wasn’t innocent herself, at least not later. She knew she was carrying a disease, but she didn’t want to given up cooking, because it was the best paying job she could hold down. Nor was she willing to let doctors operate on her, though given the state of medicine at the time she can’t really be faulted for that.
