I worked for BASF Wyandotte for a couple of years in the ‘80’s. Wrote some totally non-Y2K-compliant code while I was there, because we had to conserve 10’s of K of RAM.

I had input on some small applications at the design stage in the early 90s and “won” arguments that included making their date storage Y2K compliant. Counter argument was that we had a 7-year software cycle and that the code would be gone by 2000. One of those apps lasted until 2005 and only went away due to the MicroVAX it ran on being pulled.
